Rope is at the heart of a mobile setup — your tether, your lineman's belt, and the lines on your climbing gear. A handful of simple knots and hitches will make your whole system safer and faster. Here are the essentials.
The girth hitch
The go-to for attaching a rope or loop around the tree or your bridge. Fast, secure, and easy to adjust.
The prusik (friction hitch)
A sliding friction knot that grips under load and slides when unweighted — the backbone of an adjustable tether and lineman's belt.
The bowline
A reliable fixed loop that won't slip and is easy to untie after being loaded. Good for a hundred uses around the tree.
Practice until they're automatic
Tie them at home until you can do them cold, in the dark, with gloves on. Your safety system depends on it — always use rated rope and gear, and inspect everything before and after each hunt.
Our APEX Ladder System ships with 1,900-lb-rated rope and a patent-pending V-Press crossbar that bites hard. See the 5-Pack and 10-Pack.
